Notice from the Strafford Energy and Climate Committee
By Jim Schley, Intermunicipal Regional Energy Coordinator
Dear neighbors, the Strafford Energy and Climate Committee is very happy to announce that the Regional Energy Committee position that we agreed at this year’s Town Meeting to help fund has been filled with a very experienced person.Geoff Martin previously served as the Energy Coordinator for the Town of Hartford, Vermont. He holds a Master’s degree from Emory University and has experience in climate and energy policy.
This position will be administered by the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission (TRORC) and guided by a Steering Committee with representatives from the collaborating towns, which are Barnard, Fairlee, Sharon, Strafford, Thetford, and Woodstock. This is the first locally funded, shared (“intermunicipal”) service of its kind.
The focus of Geoff Martin’s advice and consultation will be energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and other programs that help meet Vermont’s Comprehensive Energy Plan milestones.
The Strafford Energy and Climate Committee invites suggestions from town residents for other initiatives to assist our community in meeting the goals in the “Climate Emergency” Resolution we also passed at town meeting, including a commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in Strafford by 2030.
Please send suggestions to Committee secretary Jim Schley at: jschley@sover.net or with an off-list reply. We’ll publicize the ideas we receive from community members.
